This Lavender Earl Grey Oatmeal with white chocolate is a rich and indulgent breakfast or dessert that you should try this summer!
Hello, folks! How are you doing? I hope you started this new week off right and that it’s been treating you well. And just in case you need something very special to help you navigate through the week, then I got you covered.
I know some people may say: “What? Oatmeal in summer? No, thanks, Ben”. But please don’t disregard the idea because this Lavender Earl Grey Oatmeal is more than just any other oatmeal. And because you can enjoy it cold, too (if that’s a concern of yours.)
Why You Will Like This Lavender Earl Grey Oatmeal
As with any oatmeal, this Lavender Earl Grey Oatmeal recipe is so easy. But the result will not disappoint you. If you love dessert-like oatmeal recipes, you will certainly love this one. It’s more indulgent and makes it perfect for a lazy weekend morning.
The combination of Earl Grey tea and lavender is harmonious and complex. It combines bright and citrusy notes of Earl Grey with the floral and soothing aroma of lavender. Needless to say, white chocolate works perfectly with both flavours and makes this oatmeal extra rich and creamy.
Besides, you can enjoy it cold if the idea of having a bowl of hot oatmeal on a warm morning sounds a little off. Of course, for this, you will need to make the porridge in advance, i.e., in the evening, and voilà – you will have a hearty yet fresh bowl of oatmeal the next morning!
Ingredients You Will Need for Lavender Earl Grey Oatmeal
- Old-fashioned (also known as rolled) oats. Old-fashioned oats are a type of oats made by steaming and flattening under a heavy press roller. They take between 7 to 15 minutes to cook on the stovetop, and they have a slightly chewy and more pronounced consistency when cooked. Cook them for up to 10 minutes for a hearty chew or slightly longer (14-15 minutes) for a softer oatmeal; if cooking longer, you will need to add more liquid to achieve the desired consistency.
- Quick-rolled oats, also known as quick-cooking oats can be used instead. Their cooking time is about 5 minutes for an oatmeal with a soft and smooth texture. They generally retain all the health benefits of the old-fashioned oats, but tend to have slightly less fiber due to the additional processing.
- Freshly brewed Earl Grey tea – used in place of water or milk. The standard ratio is roughly 1:2 (oats to liquid), resulting in quite thin porridge. Personally, I love to use less liquid for an extra thick consistency. And while I have not tested this myself, the addition of milk is an excellent option for a more delicate flavour and richer consistency. If using milk, I would recommend combining half of tea and half of milk.
- Dried culinary lavender buds – just a little (about 1/2 tsp.). Because we are steeping lavender in tea, the aroma won’t be too strong.
- Salt – always add a pinch of salt to accentuate the flavours; without salt, it will be bland.
- Honey – just a little for sweetness and balancing out flavours.
- White chocolate – adds sweetness and richness. You can skip the chocolate and add instead more honey.
- Butter (optional) – a small knob for added richness.

I was just thinking I could go for a good bowl of oatmeal. I know it’s crazy hot out there right now, but sometimes you just need a bowl of oatmeal! I love how you steeped the lavender in the tea for this recipe. It sounds quite fancy…but also easy to make. Love it!
Thank you David!
My favorite tea is Earl Gray. I’ll take oatmeal in the summer especially one that sounds as delicious and flavorful as this recipe.
Thank you Judee!
I love Earl Grey tea so I am sure I would enjoy this.
Thank you Tandy!
I don’t eat oats, but my husband love it. And this looks like another winner, Ben.
Thank you Angie!
While I love the flavors in Earl Grey Tea (bergamot), I cannot stomach tea of any kind. Weird, huh? But I do have a bergamot oil I can use in place of the tea in this recipe. Bergamot and lavender go so well together!
Yes, as long as it’s the culinary-grade bergamot oil, you can absolutely use it!
