Lavender Limoncello Gin Cocktail

Hello, folks! How are you doing? I hope you all had a great weekend and are now enjoying a new week. (On a side note, it was an additional day off for me this Monday, so it did not really feel like Monday at all!)

And please forgive me in advance. Why? Because it’s summer, and a cocktail production factory on the Havoc in the Kitchen is working again. So, I am sharing another cocktail recipe today with you. That’s the third one in a row. Factory it is. Please welcome this Lavender Limoncello Empress 1908 Gin cocktail.

What is Empress 1908 Indigo Gin?

Empress 1908 Indigo Gin is liquor (disclaimer: not sponsored) produced in British Columbia, Canada. It has a pleasant and subtle botanical flavour, including the one coming from Juniper berries. It also includes Butterfly pea blossoms that give this gin its distinct indigo colour and which changes its shade depending on the pairing. The hues (i.e., different shades of purple and pink, ranging from light lavender to vibrant fuchsia) vary depending on the pairing ingredients. It works particularly well when mixing with citrus juices and liquors. And it pairs wonderfully with botanical flavours like lavender and rose, too.

If you have never had this gin, I encourage you to give it a try. If not available, as an alternative, you can use any other gin with a delicate botanical flavour instead.

There are other flavours produced by the same distillery company such as elderflower and rose, cucumber and lemon, and oaken gin, but unfortunately, they are not available here in Nova Scotia.

Why You’ll Love This Lavender Limoncello Gin Cocktail

  • Floral and aromatic: Lavender adds a gentle, elegant perfume without overpowering.
  • Bright and refreshing: Limoncello brings citrusy freshness that keeps the drink light.
  • Naturally beautiful: Empress 1908 Indigo Gin gives the cocktail its signature colour.
  • Perfect for summer: Ideal for warm evenings, brunches, or casual celebrations.

Ingredients you will need for this cocktail:

  • Empress 1908 Indigo Gin – a spirit distilled in British Columbia, Canada. It contains Butterfly pea blossom that gives Empress 1908 its distinct indigo hue. This deep indigo hue changes to bright lavender, soft pink, or fuchsia depending on the pairing. Besides Butterfly pea blossom tea, the gin’s distinct flavour profile includes other botanicals such as black tea, juniper berries, grapefruit peel, and rose petals. Indigo gin has a pleasant herbal earthy aroma with a hint of citrus. Any other gin in place of Empress 1908 Indigo works well in this cocktail – with the major difference being the purple hues.
  • Limoncello â€“ also works as both a modifier and sweetener. It also makes the flavour profile more complex.
  • Lavender simple syrup from Lavender Simple Syrup recipe or recipe of your choice. Pro-tip: when making lavender syrup, add one or two blueberries so your syrup will have a lovely blueberry colour.
  • Fresh lemon juice – balances out the sweetness of Limoncello and lavender syrup.
  • Ice cubes â€“ for chilling. And you can also serve this cocktail on rocks if you prefer a lighter version. If serving on the rocks, you can also increase the amount of gin, so the melting ice will not affect the flavour too much.

Not only a beautiful cocktail, but wonderful flavor pairing with the lavender!

  3. This sounds like such a delicious summer cocktail, Ben! I had to laugh when you said the cocktail factory is open again. I do enjoy Empress 1908 – it lends itself to such fun drinks. And using limoncello to activate the color in the gin is a great idea!

  4. Two absolute favorites – lavender and limoncello! I know I would love this refreshing spring/summer cocktail :)

  5. A lovely combination. Setting this aside for when I can a) make the lavender syrup, and b) pick up some indiogo gin. I love summer cocktails.
