Cranberry Amaretto Sangria is a festive version of a classic cocktail with a complex fruity and nutty flavour. Make sure to make a large batch to enjoy during the holidays.
Jump to RecipeHey folks – how are you doing? I hope new week has been treating you well so far.
And even though it is Tuesday, please forgive me for posting this cocktail. You are not required to try it right away (although it is a judgement-free environment here, if you cannot wait until the weekend ????)
Cranberry Amaretto Sangria
There’s many options how to spike your sangria. Normally, I would go with brandy or triple sec – just like in this Christmas Sangria. This time, I opted for the addition of Amaretto for a festive and complex flavour profile.
Other ingredients include fresh cranberries, orange, and a touch of grenadine syrup for an added sweetness (honey will do, too.) And yes, some red wine, obviously.
Actually, this Cranberry Amaretto Sangria is just an idea, and you can use it for creating your favourite sangria. Do not want or do not have cranberries? What about some pomegranate arils or cherries (frozen cherries will do – just defrost them and drain well.) Do not like or want to include oranges? Clementines or tangerines are all good substitutions, and you can totally omit the citrus part and use cranberry juice instead. Would you like a stronger sangria or with a more sophisticated flavour profile? Try adding up two different spirits; i.e., amaretto and triple sec, amaretto and brandy.

hoursCranberry Amaretto Sangria is a festive version of a classic cocktail with a complex fruity and nutty flavour.
Ingredients
1 bottle dry red wine (I used Cabernet-Merlot)
1/2 cup Amaretto
1/2 cup cranberry juice
juice of 1 orange
1 cup (~120 gr.) fresh cranberries, sliced or cut in half
1 orange, sliced
1-2 tbsp. grenadine syrup or honey (optionally, you can skip if your wine is sweet enough)
Directions
- Simply stir to combine first six ingredients in a large pitcher or sangria bowl. Try and adjust the taste to your liking; you may want to add a bit of grenadine syrup or honey (7th, optional ingredient), an additional splash of Amaretto or more of the cranberry / orange juice.
- Chill in the fridge for 2-4 hours or until ready to serve. You can serve it immediately over crushed ice, but chilling is strongly recommended as it will allow the fruit to infuse the wine and all flavours to mingle.
- Garnish as desired, serve, and enjoy! Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, though best when fresh.
Notes
- You can use frozen cranberries – just make sure to fully defrost them (overnight) and then well drain.

Cranberry Amaretto Sangria? Count me in! What a brilliant twist to the classic sangria, adding a touch of Amaretto for that festive and nutty flavor. The combination of fresh cranberries, orange, and grenadine syrup sounds like a delightful burst of flavors.
Thanks Raymund!
What a fun idea to make a holiday sangria! This would be a huge hit at holiday parties. Can I add a splash of bourbon to mine? :-)
