This Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal with a touch of honey or maple syrup, is a tasty and cozy recipe that would be the perfect breakfast for cold winter mornings. Satisfying and rich in fiber, it will keep you full for the entire morning.

Hello, folks – how are you doing? Long time no see indeed.
For whatever reason – or actually for many reasons – I am struggling to return to my regular blogging routine, whether it’s sharing new recipes or checking updates from my fellow bloggers. Well, I guess, it is just January – a slow, cold, dark, and hard month. Hopefully, I could bounce back shortly. I love consistency, you know.
In the meantime, I am going to keep it short and sweet and jump to the recipe.
Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal
Isn’t it sound somewhat nostalgic? Oatmeal, cinnamon, raisins. Just like a good old-fashioned Oatmeal Cinnamon Raisin Cookie (Different Recipe!). But healthier, obviously.
What can be better than a bowl of warm thick oatmeal on a cold winter morning? Only if this oatmeal had an addition of cinnamon and is naturally sweetened with raisins, honey or maple syrup. Well, a little knob of butter will certainly not hurt, either. And if you want something extra special, you can also add some chopped toasted walnuts, sliced bananas, a touch of cream, and so on.

Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal
Course: Breakfast2

minutesThis Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal with a touch of honey or maple syrup, is a tasty and cozy recipe that would be the perfect breakfast for cold winter mornings. Satisfying and rich in fiber, it will keep you full for the entire morning.
Ingredients
1 cup (ab. 90 gr.) old-fashioned / rolled oats (5-7 minute cooking time)
1 and 1/2 cup to 2 cups of water –  see notes
1/4 cup (40 gr.) seedless raisins
1 tbsp. honey (20 gr) or maple syrup (15 gr.)
1/4 to 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, plus more for topping
a pinch of salt
1/2 tbsp. (7 gr.) butter, optional
Directions
- Add water, honey or maple syrup, salt, and raisins to a medium pot. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Once boiling, lower the heat to medium-low and add in the oats and cinnamon.
- Cook, stirring occasionally, until the oats have thickened up and are tender, about 3-5 minutes – depending on the recommended cooking time. This cooking time would result in a slightly chewy oatmeal. You can cook for a few minutes longer, if you prefer it softer.
- Turn off the heat and stir in the butter, if desired. When I have time, I love to cover the pot with a lid and let the oatmeal to stay for a minute or two (this makes the oatmeal softer, and somewhat lighter), but that’s optional.
- Serve oatmeal adding additional cinnamon on top, if desired. Enjoy!
Notes
- The standard ratio is roughly 1 cup of liquid per 1/2 cup of oats, resulting in quite thin porridge. Personally, I love to use less water for an extra thick consistency. Also, I used water, but milk is an excellent option for more delicate flavour and richer consistency. When using milk, I like combining ½ a cup of water and ½ a cup of milk.

I have to admit I’ve never been a big fan of oatmeal (or other cereals for that matter). But if I were to venture into that world, this would be a good place to start! Must be very warming on a cold winter’s morning.
I am in love with that bowl and plate Ben. And i really love porridge! Instant/old-fashioned/overnight – you name it…
Hope the January blues depart for you soon…
cheers

Oatmeal is such a wonderful winter breakfast, satisfying and absolutely delicious.
Hey Ben, I have oatmeal almost every day for breakfast, and of course cinnamon and raisins are often in it. And ALWAYS a pat of butter. I makes all the difference, to my way of thinking. Anyway, so of course I was interested to see how someone else’s preparation might differ from mine. I agree with you that the 1:2 oats-to-water ratio is a bit much. I compensate by using a heaping portion of oats instead of a level measure, and by cooking it a bit longer. But I really like the look of the texture that your method provides. I’ll have to try it!

January is a hard month to get things going again. I totally get it. I find that once you finally get going, then it becomes easy again. Either way, this oatmeal sounds fantastic for a cold morning! I’ve been cinnamon + brown sugar lately, but I need to try a bit of maple syrup and raisins now. Yum!

I usually use honey, but I am going to try with maple syrup this weekend as that sounds perfect :)

What a perfect bowl of comfort to start the day! Lov ethis, Ben… and could use it now, even though our temps are warmer than most of the U.S.
By the way, my subscription finally worked! I got my first notification. Yay!
A great breakfast to wake up to!
