Why You’ll Love This Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal

  • Comforting: Warm cinnamon, soft raisins, and creamy oats make this a classic, soothing breakfast.
  • Simple: Made with pantry staples and ready in minutes.
  • Naturally sweet: Lightly sweetened with honey, letting the oats and raisins shine.
  • Customizable: Easy to adjust with milk, butter, or extra toppings to suit your mood.

Flavour and Texture Profile

This oatmeal is soft and creamy with tender oats and juicy raisins throughout. The cinnamon adds warmth rather than spice, while honey provides subtle sweetness. The overall texture is comforting and spoon-soft, with enough body to feel satisfying without being heavy.

Ingredients You’ll Need for This Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal

  • Rolled oats: Old-fashioned rolled oats give the best creamy yet hearty texture.
  • Liquid: Water, milk, or a combination of both can be used depending on how rich you like your oatmeal.
  • Raisins: They plump up as the oatmeal cooks, adding natural sweetness and chew.
  • Cinnamon: Brings warmth and that classic cinnamon-raisin flavour.
  • Honey: Adds gentle sweetness without overpowering the oats.
  • Salt: Just a small pinch enhances all the flavours.
  • Butter (optional): A small amount makes the oatmeal extra creamy and comforting.

How to Make Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal

To make this cinnamon raisin oatmeal, start by bringing your liquid of choice to a gentle boil in a small saucepan along with a pinch of salt and cinnamon. Stir in the rolled oats and raisins, then reduce the heat to a steady simmer.

Cook the oatmeal, stirring occasionally, until the oats are tender and creamy and the raisins are plump. This usually takes about five to seven minutes, depending on the oats and your preferred consistency. Add more liquid if needed to keep the oatmeal smooth.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the honey and butter, if using. Let the oatmeal rest for a minute, then give it a final stir before serving warm.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (ab. 90 gr.) old-fashioned / rolled oats (5-7 minute cooking time)

  • 1 and 1/2 cup to 2 cups (360 to 450 ml.) of water –  see notes

  • 1/4 cup (40 gr.) seedless raisins

  • 1 tbsp. honey (20 gr) or maple syrup (15 gr.)

  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, plus more for topping

  • a pinch of salt

  • 1/2 tbsp. (7 gr.) butter, optional

Directions

  • Add water, honey or maple syrup, salt, and raisins to a medium pot. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Once boiling, lower the heat to medium-low and add in the oats and cinnamon.
  • Cook, stirring occasionally, until the oats have thickened up and are tender, about 3-5 minutes – depending on the recommended cooking time. This cooking time would result in a slightly chewy oatmeal. You can cook for a few minutes longer, if you prefer it softer. My oatmeal is super thick, so if you wish a thinner version, add more liquid.
  • Turn off the heat and stir in the butter, if desired. When I have time, I love to cover the pot with a lid and let the oatmeal to stay for a minute or two (this makes the oatmeal softer, and somewhat lighter), but that’s optional.
  • Serve oatmeal adding additional cinnamon on top, if desired. Enjoy!

Notes

  • The standard ratio is roughly 1 cup of liquid per 1/2 cup of oats, resulting in quite thin porridge. Personally, I love to use less water for an extra thick consistency. Also, I used water, but milk is an excellent option for more delicate flavour and richer consistency. When using milk, I like combining ½ a cup of water and ½ a cup of milk.

  1. Your Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal recipe is the ultimate comfort food for cold winter mornings! I’ll definitely be giving this cozy breakfast a try.

  2. I have to admit I’ve never been a big fan of oatmeal (or other cereals for that matter). But if I were to venture into that world, this would be a good place to start! Must be very warming on a cold winter’s morning.

  3. I am in love with that bowl and plate Ben. And i really love porridge! Instant/old-fashioned/overnight – you name it…
Hope the January blues depart for you soon…
    cheers

  4. It’s recipes like this that keep me going throughout the cold and dark mornings of winter Ben. Hope you are doing well!

  5. Oatmeal is such a wonderful winter breakfast, satisfying and absolutely delicious.

  6. Hey Ben, I have oatmeal almost every day for breakfast, and of course cinnamon and raisins are often in it. And ALWAYS a pat of butter. I makes all the difference, to my way of thinking. Anyway, so of course I was interested to see how someone else’s preparation might differ from mine. I agree with you that the 1:2 oats-to-water ratio is a bit much. I compensate by using a heaping portion of oats instead of a level measure, and by cooking it a bit longer. But I really like the look of the texture that your method provides. I’ll have to try it!

  7. January is a hard month to get things going again. I totally get it. I find that once you finally get going, then it becomes easy again. Either way, this oatmeal sounds fantastic for a cold morning! I’ve been cinnamon + brown sugar lately, but I need to try a bit of maple syrup and raisins now. Yum!

  8. What a perfect bowl of comfort to start the day! Lov ethis, Ben… and could use it now, even though our temps are warmer than most of the U.S.

By the way, my subscription finally worked! I got my first notification. Yay!
