Hey folks, today I’m sharing another cocktail that celebrates lilac season. Mojitos are already wonderfully refreshing, so they provide the perfect base for subtle floral flavours. Instead of overpowering the drink, lilac syrup simply adds a delicate aromatic note while the classic combination of mint and lime keeps everything crisp and balanced. So today, let’s dive into this Lilac Mojito.

I know the lilac season is most likely over in the place you live. It’s mostly over here in Nova Scotia, too. (It’s relatively late season here as lilacs bloom in late May – beginning of June) Don’t forget to save this recipe for the next year!

Why You’ll Love This Lilac Mojito

  • Fresh and refreshing. First of all, mint and lime create the bright flavour that makes mojitos so popular.
  • Delicate floral twist. Meanwhile, lilac syrup adds a gentle floral aroma that feels light and elegant.
  • Classic mojito structure. At the same time, rum, mint, lime, and soda keep the drink familiar and balanced.
  • Perfect spring cocktail. Because lilac season is short, this drink feels especially seasonal.
  • Beautiful presentation. Finally, the soft colour and fresh herbs make the cocktail visually striking.

Flavour Profile

This cocktail stays very close to the classic mojito flavour profile. First, lime juice and mint create a bright, refreshing base with plenty of citrus and herbal freshness.

Meanwhile, white rum adds mild sweetness and warmth. At the same time, lilac syrup introduces a delicate floral aroma that complements the mint rather than dominating the drink.

As a result, the cocktail tastes crisp, refreshing, and lightly floral. The lilac flavour remains subtle, acting as an aromatic accent rather than a strong perfume-like flavour.

Ingredients You’ll Need for This Lilac Mojito

To make this Lilac Mojito, you only need a handful of ingredients.

  • White rum. Provides the classic base for mojitos and adds mild sweetness.
  • Fresh mint leaves. Create the signature herbal freshness of the drink.
  • Lime juice. Brings bright acidity and balance.
  • Lilac syrup. Adds delicate floral sweetness. (You can easily make your own using my homemade lilac syrup recipe.)
  • Sparkling water. Lightens the cocktail and gives it a refreshing fizz.
  • Blackberries (optional). Add a subtle berry note and a beautiful colour.
  • Ice. Keeps the drink crisp and refreshing.
  • Mint and lime wedges. Provide a fresh aromatic garnish.

Possible Additions and Variations

You can easily adjust this cocktail depending on your taste.

  • Berry variation. Muddle blackberries with the mint for additional fruit flavour.
  • Stronger floral note. Add slightly more lilac syrup if you prefer a more pronounced floral aroma.
  • Lighter version. Increase the sparkling water for a lower-alcohol cocktail.
  • Frozen mojito. Blend the ingredients with ice for a frozen cocktail.
  • Citrus variation. Add a splash of lemon juice along with the lime for extra brightness.
  • How to Make Lilac Mojito
  • First gently muddle the mint leaves with lime juice and lilac syrup in a glass.
  • Next add rum and ice, then stir to combine.
  • Finally top with sparkling water if desired, garnish with mint and lime, and serve immediately.

  1. Wow- I did not realize that the lilac flower is edible. I love the flavor and I’m sure I would love this delicious looking rum drink. I’ve never seen lilac syrup but I’ll look for it.

  2. Your lilac mojito couldn’t be a more attractive color! Lilacs are done blooming where I live, although I have to say, this year seemed to have been an incredible year for them. They were blooming like crazy everywhere. And I love the scent. So I bet I’d like this mojito.

  3. What a pretty cocktail, Ben! I do enjoy aromatics in cocktails, and I could get on board with this. It sounds fantastic for a hot summer day! The color is just so fun!

  4. Lynne will love this Ben! We’re having some wonderful summer weather at the moment and I’m pulling the BBQ out again this weekend. This will be just perfect for our afternoon drinks in the sun. Thank you!

  5. Liz

Again, the color is phenomenal! Our lilac blossoms are long gone, but this would be a fun cocktail to try next spring.

  6. This is just so beautiful, and I know there is more coming as I read on… Lilacs ore one of the few things we miss about living in Maine. There just aren’t any here in Arizona. Yes, Trader Joe gets them when they are in season but I doubt they are chemical-free. I will just need to visit the Northeast during lilac season next year! (I was able to find lilac extract online but no syrup.)

  7. Michelle

What a beautiful drink, Ben! Loving all these lilac recipes!
