This Boozy Cloudberry Jam Milkshake with brandy is a luscious and refreshing drinkable dessert to enjoy all summer.
Hello, folks! How are you doing? It’s finally FRIDAY! Yay! I hope you are super excited about the weekend. I am so, so excited. Besides, it’s an extended weekend for us because of the holiday on Monday.
And as the weather is getting nice and warm, it’s the perfect time for a tasty milkshake. This Cloudberry Milkshake, to be precise.
What Are Cloudberries?
Rubus chamaemorus (Latin) is a flowering plant in the rose family, which produces an amber or apricot-coloured fruit. The shape resembles blackberries and raspberries, particularly yellow raspberries. But the taste is unique. While being slightly tart and earthy, cloudberries have sweet notes, somewhat resembling honey and apricot. Sometimes people also find some resemblance with the aroma of heather.
Also, cloudberries go by a few other names, including Nordic berry, knotberry, and bakeapple. Yes, if you live in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, Canada, you are likely familiar with the name bakeapple.
Cloudberries are native to the Northern Hemisphere. They are ubiquitous in the Nordic countries, including Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Greenland, as well as Northern parts of Russia, Canada (e.g., Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec), and the United States (e.g., northern Minnesota, New Hampshire, and Maine).
But cloudberries are expensive because they are scarce and wild berries; they are not cultivated. Unless you live somewhere in Scandinavia, it’s probably nearly impossible to buy fresh cloudberries. Hence, cloudberry jam is the answer! (Hint: the cheapest and great-quality jam you can get is from Ikea. Not sponsored).
Boozy Cloudberry Jam Milkshake
This is a super easy drink. Or dessert. Or a drinkable dessert. Whatever you call it.
To make this milkshake, you will need cloudberry jam and vanilla ice cream. In fact, you can stop here. But I decided to add a generous splash of brandy. Because cloudberry and ice cream jam are quite sweet, brandy offsets the sweetness nicely. You can use another spirit like gin, bourbon, or rum.
You can make this shake non-alcoholic, too. In this case, you will need to add a little milk to achive the desired consistency. But in my opinion, brandy elevates a simple milkshake to a completely different level.

Thank you David!
We had great time in Finland this winter and I’ve bought all cloud berry product available (including lipstick). Thank you for this idea. I was thinking about making cake to publish but now it seems I’ll spend my batch of jam for milkshake LOL!
Ooo I’m so jealous – I want all those products. I hope you tried cloudberry spirits.
Nice way to start your weekend!
Exactly!
I need to find some cloudberry jam to try! The milkshake is really different and delicious, Ben.
Thank you Angie!
this sounds like a really interesting milkshake Ben. Yep I reckon IKEA has some great foodstuffs, which surprised me when i found this out years ago. Mm i don’t want to be a pain but i think your jam measurement is a wee bit off. I think it is more like 165 grams; 250g. is a large amount, more like a cup. Sorry to be a pain.
cheers
