  • Elegant: A touch of brandy transforms this into a refined cloudberry dessert drink.
  • Flexible: Easily adjust sweetness, alcohol level, or texture.
  • Quick: A simple way to make a milkshake with cloudberry jam in just minutes.

Flavour and Texture Profile

This creamy boozy cloudberry milkshake is all about balance. The texture is thick, smooth, and velvety, while the flavour offers layers of gentle sweetness and subtle tartness. Cloudberries have a distinctive profile – slightly honeyed with hints of apricot and a faint earthy note. In this cloudberry milkshake with brandy, the alcohol adds a soft warmth and depth without overpowering the fruit, making the drink feel both comforting and sophisticated.

What Are Cloudberries?

Cloudberries (Rubus chamaemorus) are rare northern berries found in regions like Scandinavia and Canada. In Newfoundland and Labrador, they are known as bakeapples.

These berries resemble pale golden raspberries and offer a unique flavour that blends sweetness with a gentle tart edge, along with subtle honeyed and apricot-like notes. Because they are difficult to cultivate, fresh cloudberries are uncommon, making cloudberry jam the most accessible way to enjoy them.

Cloudberry Jam in Desserts

Cloudberry jam is a wonderful ingredient for desserts because it pairs beautifully with creamy elements. Its slightly tart and aromatic flavour cuts through richness, making it ideal for ice cream, cheesecakes, or milk-based drinks.

In this milkshake with cloudberry jam, the jam blends seamlessly into the ice cream, creating a smooth and fragrant dessert that feels both simple and elevated.

Ingredients You’ll Need for This Cloudberry Jam Milkshake

It’s easy to make this cloudberry jam milkshake with just a handful of ingredients.

  • Vanilla ice cream: Provides richness and a creamy base for the milkshake.
  • Cloudberry jam: The key ingredient, adding fruity, slightly tart, and aromatic flavour.
  • Brandy: Brings warmth and complexity; you can substitute with rum or omit it.
  • Milk (optional): Helps adjust the consistency if you prefer a lighter cloudberry milkshake.

How to Make Cloudberry Jam Milkshake

In a blender, combine the vanilla ice cream, cloudberry jam, and brandy. Blend until smooth and creamy. If the mixture is too thick, add a splash of milk and blend again until you reach your desired consistency. Taste and adjust as needed – add a bit more jam for sweetness or a touch more brandy for depth. Pour into chilled glasses and serve immediately.

  4. this sounds like a really interesting milkshake Ben. Yep I reckon IKEA has some great foodstuffs, which surprised me when i found this out years ago. Mm i don’t want to be a pain but i think your jam measurement is a wee bit off. I think it is more like 165 grams; 250g. is a large amount, more like a cup. Sorry to be a pain.
    cheers
