This Boozy Blueberry Milkshake recipe combines the richness of ice cream with the lusciousness of blueberry sauce and a generous amount of alcohol, making this drinkable dessert naughty and exciting.
Hello, folks! How are you doing? I hope you all had a good start to this new week and that it continues this way.
And if you require something super special (and naughty) to navigate through this week, I’ve got something special for you. I am talking about this Boozy Blueberry Milkshake!
Boozy Blueberry Milkshake
If you love spiked milkshakes, you will love this recipe. Apart from the blueberry sauce, this recipe is a breeze to make. To make it, you will need the following ingredients:
- Blueberry sauce (frozen or fresh blueberries, lemon, cardamom, vanilla extract, and maple syrup or honey.
- Vanilla ice cream. Be sure to let the ice cream sit at room temperature until it starts to soften, 10 to 15 minutes, for easy blending.
- Gin – or you can use your favourite spirit. Brandy, bourbon, and rum all are great options.
- Milk – optionally, only if you prefer a thinner version.
Why Make Blueberry Reduction?
If you often cook with blueberries, especially frozen, you probably know it can be challenging to deliver a great flavour. Blueberries can sometimes be bland and lack a distinctive aroma. A good way to enhance their flavour is to roast them. Or, like in this recipe, simmer them down to make a reduction.
Blueberries combined and sautéed with lemon juice and zest and maple syrup or honey are such a treat – packed with a great flavour. And if you have any leftovers, you can refrigerate and use them over your vanilla ice cream, with pancakes, or with cottage cheese.
If you have sweet and flavourful fresh blueberries, you can definitely use them instead. But even flavourful fresh berries will probably not be as bright as the blueberry reduction.
And you can also use blueberry jam, too! (Although the final result will likely be sweeter due to a higher sugar content.)
Can You Make This Recipe Without Alcohol?
Yes, absolutely!
You can use more milk to archive the desired consistency.
And you can try this non-alcoholic Blueberry Milkshake.

That’s one decadent treat, Ben! I love how you took the extra step to make a proper blueberry reduction, such a smart move to deepen the flavour and really make the berries shine. And pairing it with gin? Genius.
Thank you Raymund!
Wow, I could use a boozy blueberry milkshake right about now! Looks so delightful!
Thank you Michelle!
I totally know what you mean about some blueberries being large but lacking flavor. A good blueberry is amazing, but a bad one just has no flavor at all. Great idea to make a reduction to get that blueberry flavor here. I need a milkshake now!
