Boozy Plum Milkshake

Hello folks! How are you doing? I hope you are enjoying fall.

Today, I am excited to share something so good. Milkshake! Some of you may be a tad skeptical about enjoying a milkshake in autumn, but why not? This refreshing dessert also has a fall vibe thanks to its warming flavour profile.

Boozy Plum Milkshake

This Boozy Plum Milkshake is not just any milkshake – its unique blend of fresh and fruity and warm and cozy flavours makes it perfect for this time of the year.

First, you will need sauté plums with some maple syrup and spices such as cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom (or you can use pumpkin spice mix.) Honey in place of maple syrup would also work perfectly. Cooking down plums first helps evaporate the excess juices and intensify the flavour.

After cooling the sautéed plums, you can now make the milkshake! Simply combine the fruit with all the juices, ice cream, and spiced dark rum run your blender for a minute or so. I did not use any milk as there was enough liquid in the sautéed fruit, but you can add some if it is too thick to your liking. Or that can be more rum, too! Also, I used rum & raisin ice cream, but vanilla or maple would be great as well.

Ingredients

  • Sautéed Plums:
  • 4 large plums (about 1 lb. or 450 gr.), pitted and sliced

  • 2-3 tbsp. (30-45 ml.) maple syrup

  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp. ginger and cardamom, each

  • a little pinch of salt

  • Boozy Plum Milkshake:
  • sautéed plums

  • 1 pint (about 470 gr. or 2 cups) ice cream of your choice (vanilla, maple, or rum & raisin all are excellent choices), or more

  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup (60 to 80 ml.) dark spiced rum

Directions

  • Place the plums along with the maple syrup and spices in a small saucepan over low-medium heat. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for about 7 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let it completely cool for 30 minutes or so.
  • In a meantime, let the ice cream sit out at room temperature until starting to soften, 10 to 15 minutes, for easy blending. In the meantime, chill the glasses in the fridge or even freezer.
  • Place in the cup of your blender the sautéed plums, rum, and soften ice cream.
  • Blend until the milkshake is smooth and pourable, for about 40-60 seconds. The consistency should not be too thick as there is enough of liquids, but you may add some milk or even more rum, to thin it up.
Divide the milkshake between the chilled glasses, sprinkle with more cinnamon if desired, and enjoy enjoy right away!

Notes

  • You can use honey instead of maple syrup, as well as other spices of your choice (or even pumpkin spice mix.)
  • I did not add any milk because of the sautéed fruit has enough of juice, but you can use some, if you prefer a less thick version. If you prefer super thick milkshake, use more ice cream.
