Blueberry Gin Cocktail

Hello everyone. I hope you are doing well. (If you ask me, I am doing SO well. Because the heatwave is over, and we’re finally having very comfortable weather.) I know it’s not even the mid of week, but why shouldn’t we have a drink? Or you can plan this to enjoy over the weekend.

If you’ve visited this blog before, you might now I am obsessed with cocktails since last summer. The list is already quite impressive. You are also probably aware that I am a huge fan of light, fruity, and relatively sweet cocktails (As my husband would sometimes call them “Boozy smoothies” lol)

Summer Cocktail Ideas

There are just a few examples:

Blackberry Lavender Cocktail

Blackberry Tarragon Cocktail

Rose Gin Cocktail

Blueberry Lime Martini Cocktail

Passion Fruit Martini

If you like something stronger, you should go with this classic – Empress 1908 Gin & Tonic.

But if I normally used one type of spirit last year, I’ve been discovering the science of mixology in 2022. (Well, as always, typical Ben instead of practicing with classic cocktails first, opted for his own way haha.)

Blueberry Gin Cocktail

This Blueberry Gin Cocktail features two types of gin; however, there is also a different option. First time I made this cocktail combining Empress 1908 Gin with a strawberry-flavoured gin. Very nice! For the second time, I combined Empress 1908 Gin with Cointreau. great result, too (I think Triple sec makes the flavour more complex, interesting.)

Also, you will need frozen blueberries. Of course, you can use fresh, but I would suggest enjoying them fresh or in a different recipe. To intensify their flavour, you will need to cook them down with some maple syrup, lime juice, and mint. Such a vibrant fresh aroma! Most likely, you will not use the entire batch of this reduction (Unless you will repeat a few drinks. No judgement!) There are few ways you can use the leftovers. For instance, in this Blueberry Milkshake.

What Type of Gin to Use?

By the way, Empress 1908 Gin is not a good use for this recipe. It just happened to me I didn’t really have many other options. For this cocktail, any regular good-quality gin will suffice. Keep the 1908 for something extra special!

I hope you like this Blueberry Gin Cocktail, and you will give it a try. If you try it, let me know in this post or send me an Instagram message or share you photos adding the hashtag #havocinthekitchen.

Cheers!

Ingredients

  • Blueberry Reduction:
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries

  • 2 tbsp. maple syrup

  • 1 tsp. lime juice

  • few large mint leaves

  • Blueberry Gin Cocktail:
  • 1 Empress 1908 Gin (or any regular gin) – you can use 1 and 1/2 oz. if serving on the rocks

  • 1 oz. strawberry-flavoured gin or Cointreau

  • 1 and 1/2 oz. blueberry reduction

  • 1/2 to 1 oz. lime juice

  • 1/2 vanilla been, seeds

Directions

  • For the blueberry reduction, in a small saucepan combine the blueberries, maple syrup, and lime juice. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes, until thickens. Stir in the fresh mint leaves and cook for another few minutes. Off heat and let to infuse while cooling. Then using a regular or immersion blender, pure. (The mixture won’t be perfectly smooth.)
  • For the cocktail, in a shaker combine the liquors, blueberry reduction, lime juice, and vanilla seeds with a few ice cubes. Shake to combine for 30 seconds. Filter or serve on the rocks, as desired. If serving on the rocks, I would suggest increasing the amount of gin from 1 oz. to 1 and 1/2. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Can’t go wrong with a blueberry gin cocktail — the colour is fantastic! Definitely my kind of drink :)

  2. The color of this one is stunning, Ben! Great use of summer blueberries here. Blueberries and gin do pair well together, and I’m thinking it’s gotta be 5:00 somewhere! :-)
