Hello folks! How are you doing? I hope this week has been treating you well.
Also, are you getting prepared for Halloween? And by this, I mean sampling all those chocolates you might have already bought for kids. That’s quality control, you know!
And today I am excited to share with you the first Halloween recipe – out of two I have prepared this year for you.
Black Sesame Date Balls
These Black Sesame Date Balls are a breeze to make and a lot of fun to enjoy. I must admit, they are dangerously addictive, so they could disappear quickly.
To make these treats, you will need toasted black sesame seeds, almond meal, and Medjool dates. You can use other ground nuts in place of almond meal. You will also need some aromatics such as cinnamon and dark spiced rum. And don’t forget to add a pinch of salt!
I decided to add a few dates at the end, so they were pulsed for just a few seconds. As a result, the balls turned out to be even more stunning thanks to these little shiny incorporations of date pieces.

Black Sesame Date Balls

minutesThese Black Sesame Date Balls are a healthier nutritious treat. Made with an addition of almond meal, dark rum, and cinnamon, they are irresistibly delicious. And their appearance make them a perfect Halloween dessert!
Ingredients
1 cup (about 100 gr.) black sesame seeds, toasted
10-14 large Medjool dates, pitted (about 300 gr.)
1/2 cup (60 gr.) almond meal / flour
1-2 tbsp. (15-30 ml.) dark spiced rum (optional)
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
a good pinch of salt
Directions
- If your dates are dry, soak them for 15 minutes in warm water, then drain very well. Skip the step if they are soft and meaty. Pit the dates.
- Place the dates, sesame seeds, almond meal, cinnamon, and salt in a cup of your blender. Process (pulse), occasionally helping to get the mixture together by scaping with a spatula. Keep going until the desired consistency. In my case, the consistency was a tad drier then desired, so I added a few good splashes of rum. This is optional, but it works well in this recipe. Alternatively, you can add a few extra dates and pulse again.
- The mixture should remain slightly sticky. Shape small pieces into balls ~17-20 gr. This yields about 22 balls. Enjoy right away or chill in the refrigerator. Keep them refrigerated for up to a week.

The addition of dark rum and the little pieces of date really make them stand out. Definitely adding these to my list of treats
