Hello everyone – I hope you are doing well!

Today I’m delighted to share these Halloween black sesame date truffles, an elegant take on classic bliss balls with a subtle festive flair. They’re deeply aromatic from the toasted sesame, balanced by the natural sweetness of dates and just a hint of chocolate. Best of all, they require no baking and come together in minutes – ideal for when you want something quick, delicious, and a little different for Halloween.

Why You’ll Love These Black Sesame Date Truffles

  • Deep, nutty flavour from toasted sesame balanced with the soft sweetness of dates.
  • Naturally dark and dramatic – perfect for Halloween dessert platters.
  • No-bake and quick to prepare with minimal ingredients.
  • Healthier than traditional truffles -refined-sugar-free but still rich and satisfying.
  • Stores beautifully in the fridge for easy make-ahead entertaining.

Flavour and Texture Profile

These Halloween truffles combine earthy, toasty, and subtly sweet notes in perfect harmony. The dates give them a soft, fudgy texture, while the black sesame adds a roasted aroma and a delicate crunch. A spoonful of cocoa or chocolate deepens the flavour, creating a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth bite that’s comforting yet sophisticated. Despite their dark, dramatic look, the taste is pure harmony — sweet, nutty, and perfectly balanced.

Ingredients You’ll Need for These Black Sesame Halloween Truffles

  • Medjool dates: The base of these truffles, providing natural sweetness and a soft, fudgy texture. Their caramel flavour pairs beautifully with earthy sesame and rich cocoa.
  • Tahini: Adds smoothness, depth, and a subtle sesame undertone that ties the flavours together. Almond or peanut butter can be substituted for a slightly different profile.
  • Dark cacao powder: Unprocessed cocoa gives the truffles a deep, bittersweet chocolate taste and enhances their dark, glossy appearance.
  • Vanilla extract: Brings warmth and aromatic sweetness that rounds out the richness of the sesame and dates.
  • Cinnamon: A pinch adds gentle warmth and a touch of spice, complementing the nutty and chocolatey notes.
  • Salt: Just enough to balance sweetness and enhance every flavour.
  • Toasted black sesame seeds: Used for coating, they add visual drama and a wonderful nutty crunch, making these truffles perfectly Halloween-worthy and irresistibly textured.

Ingredients

  • 350 gr. medjool dates (about 16 large dates)

  • 2-3 tbsp. tahini

  • 1 to 1 1/2 tbsp. dark (unprocessed) cacao powder

  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

  • a pinch of cinnamon

  • a pinch of salt

  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup black sesame seeds, toasted – for coating

Directions

  • If your dates are dry, soak them for 15 minutes in warm water, then drain very well. Skip the step if they are soft and meaty. Pit the dates.
  • Place the dates, tahini, cacao powder, cinnamon, and salt in a cup of your blender. Process (pulse), occasionally helping to get the mixture together by scaping with a spatula. Keep going until the desired consistency.
  • The mixture will remain slightly sticky. Shape small pieces into balls and coat them the toasted black sesame seeds. Enjoy right away or chill in the refrigerator.

  6. Haha – we are the same way with Halloween candy! It’s too tempting to keep around, so we try to wait as long as possible before buying it. So far we’ve been good this year…but…
