Hello, folks! How are you doing? I hope you all had a great weekend and you are now ready for a new week.

And if you need something delicious to help you navigate through the week (and particularly, on Monday), this new recipe is what you are looking for. Because it’s not just any oatmeal – it’s oatmeal with dark chocolate and cherries. Black Forest Oatmeal, to be preside.

Black Forest Oatmeal Recipe (Chocolate Cherry Oatmeal)

If you love a classic combination of chocolate and cherries, this recipe will not disappoint you. I mean, ultra-rich and decadent, with a sweetness and freshness of cherries – who can resist? Garnish with some whipped cream and shaved chocolate, and you will have rather a dessert than a breakfast item.

To make this recipe, you will need the following ingredient:

  • Old-fashioned (rolled) oats. Old-fashioned oats are a type of oats made by steaming and flattening under a heavy press roller. They take 5-7 minutes to cook on the stovetop, and they have a slightly chewy and more pronounced consistency when cooked.
  • Sweet cherries, fresh or frozen. If available where you live, sour cherries will be a great choice, too.
  • Dark cocoa powder. I used Dutch-Processed Cocoa that has a dark colour and a prominent, rich aroma. But you can also pick unprocessed, natural cocoa powder. It has a lighter colour and a more acidic, fruity flavour.
  • Dark chocolate – just a few squares for an extra indulgent texture.
  • Vanilla and cinnamon – optional, but they create a more complex flavour profile.
  • Salt – always add a pinch of salt to your oatmeal and desserts, especially containing chocolate. It nicely balances out and accentuates flavours.
  • Honey or other sweetener – optional, only if you prefer a sweeter option.
  • Whipped cream and shaved dark chocolate – they are optional, but they make the presentation so much more festive. And after all, we are talking about Black Forest Oatmeal!

Also, I typically use water for my oatmeal. But you can use milk (regular or non-dairy). In fact, the flavour and texture will be only richer.

And wanna a fun twist? Consider adding a good splash of cherry or chocolate liquor to the prepared oatmeal for a pleasant subtly boozy finish.
