This Lavender Rose Milkshake is a delicious drinkable dessert with a pleasant floral aroma. Rich, smooth, sweet, and luscious, this milkshake recipe will please those who love exotic botanical flavours.
Hello, folks! How are you doing? I hope you are enjoying the weekend. And I also hope that the weather, whether it’s summer or winter for you, is comfortable.
It has been quite hot and humid here in Nova Scotia for several days. That’s why I decided to share another easy and refreshing recipe with you. After all, who wants to spend a lot of time in the kitchen when it’s hot? And turning on an oven? No, thanks. Here comes a milkshake as a good answer. So, Lavender Rose Milkshake, anyone?
Lavender Rose Milkshake
If you love floral aromas in your food, you’ll also enjoy this Lavender Rose Milkshake. It features an exotic combination of rose and lavender flavours, reminding me of Turkish delights.
The delicate vanilla ice cream is combined with lavender and rose water and balanced out with a little lemon in this drinkable sweet concoction. The tricky part is to find the right ratio of lavender and rose, so the milkshake does not taste artificial, as soap. The rule of thumb is to start with a little of both lavender and rose flavours and then add more, as desired.
Also, be sure to try the Lavender Rose Empress 1908 (Rose Gin Cocktail), featuring both flavors.
Ingredients You’ll Need for Lavender Rose Milkshake
To make this milkshake, you will need the following ingredients:
- Vanilla ice cream. Be sure to let the ice cream sit at room temperature until it starts to soften, 10 to 15 minutes, for easy blending. Also, as lavender syrup is also sweet, I recommend going with an ice cream brand that has a lower sugar content. You can play with other flavours like lavender, lemon, strawberry, or raspberries.
- Lavender syrup – adds sweetness and lavender aroma. Start with 1/4 cup (60 ml.) and then adjust by adding more, if needed.
- Rose water (not essence or extract) – for a pleasant botanical flavour. Start with about 1/2 tsp. (about 2.5 ml.) then add more if desired.
- Lemon zest – for added freshness and brightness. Optionally, you can add a little (~1 tbsp. or 15 ml.) fresh lemon juice, too.
- Milk – optional, only if you prefer a thinner milkshake. But you can also add more gin for this purpose.
- Lavender flowers and dried rose petals – optional, for a pretty presentation.
Possible Additions and Variations
- Use only lavender syrup or rose water if you prefer one flavour. In this case you may need to increase the amount for a more pronounced aroma.
- Vanilla – a little vanilla extract or vanilla seeds will add a smooth and pleasant finish rounding off the botanical flavours.
- Make this milkshake spiked by adding some alcohol like gin, vodka, or rum.
