This post was originally published in October 2015. I have taken and uploaded new photos, but I didn’t change the blog post and recipe.

Hello, folks!

Happy #NationalLavender Day!

I mean, #NationalOatmealDay.

But if you’re aware of what I’m talking about, please don’t you worry. You didn’t miss it yet, even if you live in the different world time zones. This day still happens on October, 29. I’m just being ahead of time. Besides, if I don’t do it today, I might forget about tomorrow.

So, I’m extremely pumped today to finally contribute to the food days calendar.

But in a nutshell, I’ve mentioned a few food days which I won’t miss this year. First in this list is National Oatmeal Day, as I already mentioned. Glorious, glorious day! I’m a huge oatmeal fan. It’s the best comfort satisfying breakfast for me. If I know it’s going to be a long day with a vague chance to have a lunch, I know a large bowl of oatmeal will prevent me from being grouchy hungry for longer hours.

But talking about yesterday post, David, the main spiced food blogger of the Internet, was joking about a lavender day and my ability to make everything lavender, from chicken to oatmeal.

Great joke, David! 1:0.

Lavender White Chocolate Oatmeal

But did you know I’ve already got a recipe for this Lavender White Chocolate Oatmeal?

Surprise! I guess it’s 1:1 now.

I made this delicious oatmeal in June, and I’ve been waiting so long for such a golden opportunity to share with you.

Let me say a few words about this fantastic Lavender White Chocolate Oatmeal.

“Pudding—Alice: Alice—Pudding”.

It’s fabulous, but it’s a crystal clear statement. If you’re not that fans of lavender, this oatmeal has strong but delicate, not overpowering flavor. Sure if you don’t put too much lavender in it. Then, usually I don’t add any cream or milk in my oatmeal (just water), and that time [dramatic pause] I didn’t do that either:) However, incorporating white chocolate makes the texture just fabulous, creamy and dreamy. And wait…white chocolate. Hello, Chey! Now you don’t have any room to maneuver and escape from having some lavender.

All right, it’s time to wrap it up. There’are some other significant days coming, and I need time to prepare.

In a meanwhile, you should give a try this dreamy creamy Lavender White Chocolate Oatmeal. And then repeat. Or perhaps, you already added lavender in oatmeal? Or what’s your favourite addition to oatmeal? Tell me about your experience.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (about 90 gr.) rolled oats 5-7 minutes cooking time

  • 1 and 1/2 cup to 2 cups of water –  see notes

  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. dried culinary lavender, rubbed or chopped

  • a pinch of salt

  • a small knob of butter (optional)

  • 40-50 gr. white chocolate, chopped or shaved

Directions

  • In a small saucepan, bring the water (I would suggest to starting with 1 and 1/2 cup, keeping another 1/2 cup of hot water in case you need to thin it up) with a pinch of salt to a slow boil.
  • Add the oats and lavender and cook, occasionally stirring, for one minute over medium heat.
  • Decrease heat and let the oatmeal simmer for about 3 minutes or so – depending on the recommended cooking time.
  • Off heat. Cover and let the oatmeal stand for a minute or two. Add the butter, if desired (optional). Serve the oatmeal, sprinkled with the white chocolate. Enjoy!

Notes

  • The standard ratio is roughly 1:2 (oats to liquid), resulting in quite thin porridge. Personally, I love to use less water for an extra thick consistency. Also, I used water, but milk is an excellent option for more delicate flavour and richer consistency. When using milk, I like combining ½ a cup of water and ½ a cup of milk.
