This Mediterranean-inspired crostini recipe balances richness, sweetness, acidity, herbs, and texture beautifully.

Hello, folks – I hope you all are doing well!
Sweet and savoury combinations are one of my favourite ways to make simple appetizers feel extra elegant, especially during summer when cherries are at their peak. Roasting the cherries intensifies their flavour and creates a rich jammy texture that pairs beautifully with creamy goat cheese, salty prosciutto, and crunchy pistachios. So, let’s dive into these roasted cherry crostini.
Why You’ll Love These Roasted Cherry Crostini with Prosciutto and Pistachios
- Elegant and refined: Perfect for entertaining or wine nights.
- Sweet and savoury balance: Cherries, goat cheese, and prosciutto work beautifully together.
- Wonderful texture: Crisp bread, creamy cheese, juicy cherries, and crunchy pistachios.
- Mediterranean-inspired flavours: Herbs, olive oil, balsamic, and cured meat create depth.
- Easy but impressive: Looks gourmet without complicated preparation.
Roasted Cherry Crostini: Flavour and Texture Profile
These roasted cherry crostini are sweet, savoury, creamy, salty, herbaceous, and lightly crunchy. Roasting the cherries intensifies their flavour while balsamic vinegar and honey create subtle sweet-acidic balance.
Goat cheese adds creamy tanginess, prosciutto contributes savoury richness, and pistachios provide buttery crunch. Fresh thyme ties everything together beautifully.
Why Cherries Work So Well in Savoury Appetizers
Cherries naturally pair well with savoury ingredients because they combine sweetness, acidity, and deep fruit flavour.
They work especially well with:
- Goat cheese and ricotta.
- Prosciutto and cured meats.
- Fresh herbs like thyme and basil.
- Nuts such as pistachios and walnuts.
- Balsamic vinegar and olive oil.
Roasting also makes cherries richer, softer, and slightly jammy, which makes them especially suitable for crostini and bruschetta-style appetizers.
What Cheese Pairs Best with Roasted Cherries?
Soft creamy cheeses are usually the best choice because they balance the concentrated sweetness of roasted cherries.
Some especially good options include:
- Goat cheese: Tangy and creamy with excellent contrast.
- Ricotta: Mild and soft.
- Burrata: Rich and luxurious.
- Mascarpone: Creamy and slightly sweet.
- Blue cheese: Stronger but delicious for bold sweet-savory contrast.
Goat cheese works especially well in these roasted cherry crostini because its tanginess balances the sweetness naturally.
Why Prosciutto and Cherries Are Such a Good Combination
Prosciutto and cherries create one of those classic sweet-and-salty combinations that feel surprisingly balanced and elegant.
This pairing works well because:
- Salty cured meat enhances fruit sweetness.
- Cherries brighten rich savoury flavours.
- Prosciutto adds delicate texture and richness.
- Herbs and cheese help connect the flavours naturally.
The result feels refined without requiring many ingredients.
Crostini vs Bruschetta vs Toast – What’s the Difference?
These terms are often used interchangeably, but there are some differences.
- Crostini: Usually smaller toasted slices of bread served as appetizers with toppings.
- Bruschetta: Traditionally larger grilled bread rubbed with garlic and olive oil before adding toppings.
- Toast: A broader and more casual term that can include almost any toasted bread with toppings.
Because these roasted cherry appetizers are small elegant bites served on baguette slices, “crostini” is definitely the most accurate term here.
Ingredients You’ll Need for These Roasted Cherry Crostini
It’s easy to make these roasted cherry crostini with just a handful of flavourful ingredients.
- Cherries: Sweet, juicy, and slightly jammy after roasting.
- Olive oil and balsamic vinegar: Add Mediterranean-inspired richness and acidity.
- Honey: Balances the savoury flavours.
- Dried herbs: Add subtle savoury depth.
- Baguette: Crisp base for the crostini.
- Goat cheese: Tangy and creamy.
- Prosciutto: Adds salty savoury richness.
- Pistachios: Bring buttery crunch and texture.
- Fresh thyme: Bright aromatic garnish.
Possible Additions and Variations
Although these roasted cherry crostini are already balanced and elegant, you can customize them easily:
- Add burrata instead of goat cheese.
- Add basil instead of thyme.
- Use walnuts instead of pistachios.
- Add hot honey for gentle heat.
- Drizzle lightly with balsamic glaze before serving.
What Bread Works Best for Crostini?
A baguette is one of the best breads for crostini because it becomes crisp while still remaining light and easy to bite.
Some especially good options include:
- French baguette.
- Ciabatta.
- Rustic artisan bread.
- Sourdough for a slightly tangier flavour.
The bread should be sturdy enough to support toppings without becoming overly hard or thick.
How to Make Roasted Cherry Crostini
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C (400 degrees F).
Combine the cherries with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, honey, salt, and dried herbs. Roast for about 15 minutes until softened and slightly jammy.
Meanwhile, toast the baguette slices on a dry skillet until crisp and golden.
Spread goat cheese over each slice, then top with roasted cherries, torn prosciutto, pistachios, and fresh thyme.
Serve immediately.
How Can You Use Leftover Roasted Cherries?
Roasted cherries are incredibly versatile and can be used in many sweet and savoury dishes.
Some especially good ideas include:
- Add to salads with goat cheese or feta.
- Serve over ricotta or whipped goat cheese.
- Spoon over yogurt or ice cream.
- Use in crostini or bruschetta variations.
- Pair with roasted meats or duck.
- Add to grain bowls or couscous salads.

These Roasted Cherry Crostini are some of the prettiest crosctini I’ve seen! Ben, I gotta be honest, when those slightly caramelized honey, herby, balsamic roasted cherries come out of the oven, I don’t think I’d have the self control to not eat them all, leaving me without any to make this! I’m loving the combo of sweet and salty – and you have textural variety here to with crunchy nuts and baguette and creamy goat cheese! Hope it cools down a bit for you over there – it’s been in the upper 30s C here as well – and super humid! Hope you have a great weekend!
