Cranberry Rosemary Cocktail

Hello, folks! I hope you all are doing well.

But wait a minute. Can you believe it is already December? And there are only three weeks left until the holidays, whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukah or Kwanza.

And you know that? I have not posted one recipe for a holiday cocktail this season yet! What’s wrong with me?

So, without further ado, let’s raise our glasses!

Cranberry Rosemary Cocktail

Indeed, do I need to say more? Everything is simple and straightforward in terms of flavour profile. Cranberries and rosemary are so festive and meant to be combined. I used the combination of brandy and triple sec, and the citrusy notes go so well with cranberries and rosemary. You can absolutely play with other liquors. Think of vodka, bourbon, rum, and so on. It should not be too pronounced (like gin), otherwise it will overpower the delicate aroma of berries and herbs.

I made rosemary-infused syrup with fresh c cranberries. There’s a fun fact I did not think of when planning it. As I used quite a lot of cranberries for a more distinct flavour, after the cooling, the syrup turned out to be quite thick and slightly gelatinous due to the high content of pectin. For the recipe, I reduced a bit the amount of cranberries, but your syrup still may be a tad thicker than any other syrup. There’s no problem with that as you can always dilute it with more water.

This Cranberry Rosemary Cocktail with brandy and triple sec is a fresh, fruity, and luscious cocktail. Packed with seasonal flavours, this will be a perfect drink for your festive celebration this season!

Ingredients

  • Cranberry Syrup:
  • 1 cup (115 gr.) fresh or frozen cranberries

  • 1 cup (240 ml.) water

  • 3/4 cup (150 gr.) granulated sugar

  • few rosemary sprigs

  • Cranberry Rosemary Cocktail:
  • 1 oz. (30 ml.) or more, to taste cranberry syrup

  • 2 oz. (60 ml.) brandy

  • 1 oz (30 ml.) triple sec

  • fresh rosemary and cranberries for garnish

  • ice cubes

  • fresh lemon, optional

Directions

  • Cranberry Syrup:
  • Put the water, sugar, cranberries, and rosemary in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Once boiling, lower heat and let mixture simmer for about 10 minutes until cranberries have burst and mixture has thickened.
  • Turn the heat off and let the mixture cool about 10 minutes to infuse further. Strain the syrup into a bowl, pressing down on the cranberries with a wooden spoon or spatula to extract as much juice as possible. Cool completely then refrigerate. Syrup will continue to thicken as it cools.
  • Cranberry Rosemary Cocktail:
  • In the shaker, combine the cranberry syrup, brandy, triple sec, and ice cubes and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds. Try and adjust the flavour by adding more more alcohol or syrup. If it’s a bit too sweet to your liking, a few squeezes of lemon juice will help. Filter if desired or serve over the ice (serving with ice will make the drink lighter as the ice melts). Garnish as desired and enjoy!
