Sangria is a mixed alcoholic beverage originating from Spain and Portugal. It traditionally consists of red wine, chopped fruit, and often other spirits. Oranges, lemons, and apples are common ingredients, but fruit and berry options are endless. A traditional sangria often includes spirits like brandy or orange liqueur (e.g., Triple Sec, Cointreau, or Grand Marnier). But just like with the fruit part, you can use so many other spirits, especially flavoured liqueurs, to create many fun versions.
A Sangria is a light (yet with a boozy kick thanks to mixing different alcohol) and refreshing drink. It is known for its complexity and the combination of sweet and tart notes. That’s why it is a perfect summer cocktail!

To make this fun Apricot Lavender Sangria, you will need the following ingredients:
- White wine – the base spirit of this sangria. I used Pinot Grigio, but any good-quality wine of your choice will do. I recommend going with a light, medium-dry or semi-sweet wine, but that’s up to you. A rosé can be a nice substitution, too.
- Apricot liqueur or brandy – the flavour modifier, and also adds sweetness.
- Lavender Simple Syrup – adds subtle floral aroma. Because Apricot liqueur is already quite sweet, you can reduce the sweetness by adding less sugar to the syrup. Normally, you require a ratio of 1:1, i.e. one cup of water to one cup of sugar, but you can reduce the sugar in half for this recipe.
- Apricots, peaches, or both. Don’t use frozen fruit for this recipe as it will look too mushy.
- Ice cubes – for serving.
- Club soda or sparkling water – an optional ingredient if you prefer a lighter sangria.
- Lemon – an optional ingredient, for added extra freshness.
Possible Additions and Variations
Although this recipe is already delicious, you can customize it easily:
- Add berries: Raspberries or strawberries for extra freshness.
- Use rosé: For a slightly different flavour profile.
- Make it lighter: Add more sparkling water.
- Stronger version: Increase liqueur slightly.
- Non-alcoholic: Use white grape juice and lavender syrup.
How to Balance Flavour in Sangria
- Use dry wine to avoid excessive sweetness.
- Adjust lavender syrup gradually.
- Add citrus to balance fruit sweetness.
- Chill well for the best flavour integration.
How to Make Apricot Lavender Sangria
That’s so easy. Simply combine in a pitcher the wine, apricot liqueur, lavender syrup, and sliced fruit. Try and adjust the flavour by adding more lavender syrup or apricot liqueur. Refrigerate for at least one hour and enjoy!
I will not recommend making this version way too far in advance, as the fruit will start getting mushy after two hours or even earlier, depending on its ripeness.
And don’t forget to fill your glass with some ice cubes to make this experience even more enjoyable!
