They are also known as Nordic berry, knotberry, and bakeapple – a name familiar in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.

Cloudberries grow across the Northern Hemisphere, including Nordic countries, parts of Russia, Canada, and even northern areas of the United States. However, they are rarely cultivated commercially, which makes them quite rare and expensive.

Ingredients

  • 4-6 slices of rustic bread 8-10 slices of fresh baguette (for a crostini version)

  • 4-5 tbsp. (60-75 g) plain cream cheese or goat’s cheese

  • 1/4 cup (30 g) grated smoked cheddar

  • about 1/4 cup (60 g) of cloudberry jam

  • few slices prosciutto (about 70 g) – torn into smaller slices

  • about 75 g brie, broken into pieces

  • fresh thyme

Directions

  • Preheat oven to about 170-175 degrees C (350 degrees F). Arrange the bread on a baking sheet. Place in the oven and toast for about 4-5 minutes. Remove and cool for a few minutes.
  • Spread a very thin layer of cream cheese.
  • Place about 1/2 tbsp. of the cloudberry jam (less if you are using baguette). Sprinkle with the smoked cheddar.
  • Arrange a slice of the prosciutto and a piece of brie. Sprinkle with the thyme.
  • Return to the oven for a few minutes to allow the cheeses to melt. Serve warm right away.

  2. I love ddifferent kinds of jam as I used to make my own. Cloudberry is a new one – there is always Amazon! A favorite appetizer to use toasta smothered with goodies -I’m all for prosciutto :)

  3. I hadn’t ever heard of cloudberries so I had to Google them and they are beautiful – like you said, like raspberries only orange!   9. This sounds like an amazing appetizer or even a light dinner, Ben! I can’t say that I’ve had (or even seen) cloudberries, but I’ll have to look for the jam next time I’m near an Ikea. (Believe it or not, our closest Ikea is 2+ hours away. Ugh!) All the flavors here sound amazing…especially that little bit of smoked cheddar in there! But wait, no lavender??
