Hello, folks! How are you doing? I hope this week has been kind to you and that you are now ready for the weekend.

And for a couple of tasty drinks. Oh, I am so, so ready. For both things. Luckily, I am sharing this Elderflower Margarita cocktail with you today. Don’t thank you – my pleasure.

Why You’ll Love This Elderflower Margarita Cocktail

  • Floral and fresh. Elderflower adds a soft, fragrant note that complements lime without overpowering it.
  • Perfectly balanced. Bright citrus, gentle sweetness, and clean tequila come together smoothly.
  • Light and refreshing. Ideal for summer sipping when you want something vibrant but not heavy.
  • Simple yet elegant. A small twist that transforms a classic into something special.

Ingredients For Elderflower Margarita Cocktail

This easy cocktail has a complex flavour profile making it fun to enjoy. It contains all the components typical for a classic margarita with a lovely floral twit. Ingredients you will need to make this margarita:

  • Tequila – the body of this cocktail. Use Blanco (Silver) tequila for this recipe and keep Gold tequila for sipping straight.
  • Orange liqueur – such as Triple Sec or Cointreau. Works as a modifier and sweetener by adding a sweet, orange flavour and complexity.
  • Elderflower liqueur – adds subtle sweetness and floral and fruity notes.
  • Lime juice – use freshly squeezed lime juice for added freshness and tartness.
  • Sweetener – optional, if needed. As Triple Sec and Elderflower liquors are already quite sweet, I did not add any sweetener. But please feel free to use some to balance the tartness. Agave nectar or simple syrup both are good options.
  • Ice – for chilling the drink.
  • Lime wedges – for garnish.

Possible Additions and Variations

  • Salted or floral rim. Use classic salt, or mix salt with a pinch of dried elderflower or lime zest.
  • Sparkling version. Top with a splash of soda water for a lighter, spritz-style margarita.
  • Herbal accent. Add a few basil or mint leaves when shaking for a subtle herbal layer.
  • Fruit-forward twist. A small splash of pear liqueur or muddled cucumber pairs beautifully with elderflower.
  • Sweeter profile. Adjust with a touch of simple syrup or honey if you prefer a softer finish.

Flavour Variations

If you don’t have elderflower liqueur or it’s not available, you can use another herbal or fruity sweet liqueur. Think of peach, apricot, passion fruit, cherry, and other varieties of sweet liqueur. Options are endless!

And it will also beautifully work with floral liqueurs such as rose, lavender, or violet.

How to Make Elderflower Margarita

That’s so easy. Simply combine the tequila, orange liqueur, elderflower liqueur, lime juice, and a handful of ice cubes in a shaker. Give it a good shake for 30-40 seconds until nicely chilled. Taste it and if you think that the Margarita needs extra sweetener, add a teaspoon or so of agave or simple syrup.

Strain and serve the cocktail with a few ice cubes and garnish as desired.

And yeah – I did not make the salt rim on my glass, but you are welcome to make it.

  1. This is the second recipe I received using Elderflower cordial in the past few days – the other was a muffin. I guess it’s meant to be as I have an un-opened bottle ready to use. By the way your posts were going to my spam which I corrected – that’s why I haven’t been receiving your recipes :)

  2. Ben — I love the glasses you used for this cocktail — and I lvoe the cocktail, too. Once again, we have all the ingredients on hand. Maybe this weekend?

  3. We have a bottle of elderflower liqueur, but we’ve never really known how to use it. This sounds like a delicious drink for a hot summer afternoon!

  4. That’s a pretty cocktail! Cheers! The elderflower here looks different from yours on the photos..
