This Oatmeal with Blueberry Sauce with maple syrup and lemon is a hearty yet fresh and luscious porridge recipe to enjoy this summer.
Hello, folks! How are you doing? I hope you’re having a good week and are ready for the weekend. Oh yeah, I am so, so, so ready.
And a sudden summer heat does not make it easier, either.
That’s why I am keeping it short and simple today. So, without further ado, let’s talk about this tasty oatmeal.
Oatmeal with Blueberry Sauce
If you are an oatmeal lover, I bet you also love an addition of blueberries to your bowl of hearty oatmeal. Perhaps, with a drizzle of maple syrup. Am I right?
If yes, you’ll love this recipe, too!
It’s different, though. Instead of adding fresh blueberries, I suggest making an easy sauce (aka compote). Irresistibly luscious and flavourful, it will not disappoint you. And if you happen to have any leftovers, please enjoy it over your vanilla ice cream. Or make easy lemonade by combining the sauce with water and lemon juice. You will not regret that, you are welcome.
How to Make This Blueberry Sauce
First, I’d suggest using frozen berries. They are perfect for this recipe, as you will need to simmer them down for a while (and I sometimes feel ashamed to treat this way fresh fruit.) But if you have an excess of fresh AND cheap blueberries, you can absolutely use them.
You will also need maple syrup and lemon juice. Optionally, you can add some vanilla extract, too. And if you don’t have or like maple syrup, you can use honey instead.
Be sure to thaw your frozen blueberries in advance and get rid of an excess of liquid (some of it is fine.) Then combine all ingredients and simmer for about 20 minutes. Easy as that!

You’ve been on an oatmeal kick lately…and this one might be the best one yet! That blueberry compote would be delicious on oatmeal in the morning and again on ice cream in the evening. :-)
Thank you David!
very nice picture
Thank you!
Do you know if your frozen blueberries come from South Africa? We freeze a lot for export and the quality is amazing. I often add them as is to oats but your compote sounds like a good idea.
Thank you Tandy!
The photos are gorgeous with the lilac! I have a recipe close to yours that will be published in a few days. A good oatmeal, I confirm!
