Hello everyone, how are you doing? It might be a silly question because it’s weekend. Cheers to that!

Empress 1908 Gin

It seems that many of you are familiar with famous Canadian Empress 1908 Gin (Note: this post is not sponsored.) If so, you can find some Empress creation on my block.

However, if you’ve never heard of it, please check it out in your local liquor store. It has a beautiful indigo colour. But once you mix it up with other liquors or juices (Particularly citrus juice), it will change the colour. The hues will vary depending on the pairing – different purple and pink hues from light lavender to vibrant fuchsia. Empress 1908 Gin pairs wonderfully with all fruity and herbal things especially citrus fruit, lavender, and many other.

Vanilla Empress 1908 Cocktail

For this recipe you will need four (or five) ingredients:

– Vanilla Empress 1908 gin. Gives the body of this cocktail. If this gin is not available, you can use regular.

– Vanilla liquor. It adds the sweetness and pleasant aroma.

– Vanilla bean to intensify the flavour. If you don’t have it on hands, you can always skip it. However, the vanilla aroma will be less pronounced.

– Soda of you choice. You can experiment. I used mint-lemon infused, and it was wonderful.

– Lemon peel, optional, for garnish.

So easy and tasty. And what the colour, right?

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. Empress 1908 Gin

  • 1 and 1/2 oz. vanilla liquor – I used Galliano

  • 1/4 – 1/2 small vanilla bean, seeds scraped

  • 1/2 oz. or more as desired soda of your choice (optional)

  • lemon peel – few pieces

  • 4-6 ice cubes

Directions

  • In the shaker, combine all ingredients, except for the soda together and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds. Try and adjust the flavour by adding more gin or liqueur. Filter for a stronger version or serve with the ice if looking for a lighter version. If serving on the rocks, you don’t need to add tonic, otherwise, you might want to top with a little bit tonic

  3. What a coincidence! I dated a vanilla empress in college. If only he seved cocktails like this (abd was a bit more adventurous) , maybe we’d still be together.

  4. I’d never heard of that gin but it sounds amazing. And yes, I just checked and it’s available around here. I’m not usually a gin guy but I really want to try this one, not just for the color but for the flavors, too. This cocktail would make for a. nice introduction

  5. I like gin based cocktails! The vanilla liquor sounds so intriguing. And again your presentation is impeccable, Ben.
