Hey folks, today I’m sharing another floral cocktail that feels perfect for spring. As lilac season approaches, it’s a great time to highlight drinks that showcase these delicate blossoms. This one is especially interesting because it relies on vermouth rather than stronger spirits, creating a lighter and more aperitif-style drink. So today, let’s dive into this Lilac Martini Vermouth Cocktail.

Why You’ll Love This Lilac Martini Vermouth Cocktail

  • Elegant floral flavour. First of all, lilac syrup provides a delicate floral aroma that feels distinctly spring-like.
  • Light aperitif style. Meanwhile, extra dry vermouth keeps the cocktail light and refreshing rather than strong.
  • Unique vermouth-based drink. Unlike many floral cocktails, this one uses vermouth as the only spirit.
  • Simple to prepare. At the same time, the recipe requires only a few ingredients and minimal preparation.
  • Beautiful presentation. Finally, the pale floral colour and delicate garnish create an elegant drink.

Flavour Profile

This cocktail has a light, delicate flavour with gentle floral notes. However, it is important to note that lilac does not produce a strong or dominant aroma in drinks. Instead, the flavour remains subtle and soft.

Meanwhile, extra dry vermouth contributes herbal and botanical notes that form the backbone of the cocktail. Because vermouth is crisp and slightly bitter, it balances the mild sweetness of the lilac syrup.

As a result, the drink tastes refreshing, elegant, and lightly floral rather than intensely perfumed. Overall, the lilac aroma is delicate and fragrant, acting as a subtle accent rather than the main dominant flavour.

Ingredients You’ll Need for This Lilac Martini Vermouth Cocktail

To prepare this Lilac Martini Vermouth Cocktail, you only need a few ingredients, but each one plays an important role.

  • Extra dry vermouth. Provides herbal, crisp botanical notes while keeping the cocktail light and aperitif-like.
  • Lilac syrup. Adds delicate floral sweetness and unmistakable spring aroma. (You can easily make your own using my homemade lilac syrup recipe.)
  • Ice. Chills the cocktail and slightly softens the herbal notes of vermouth.
  • Lilac flowers (optional). Provide a delicate and elegant garnish that highlights the floral character of the drink.

Possible Additions and Variations

You can easily adapt this cocktail depending on your taste.

  • Sparkling variation. Add a splash of sparkling water for a lighter, gently bubbly drink.
  • More floral flavour. Increase the lilac syrup slightly for a more pronounced floral aroma.
  • More herbal character. Add a small splash of dry gin if you prefer a stronger botanical profile.
  • Citrus brightness. Add a small squeeze of lemon juice for a brighter, fresher finish.
  • Spritz-style drink. Serve the cocktail over ice with soda water for a refreshing vermouth spritz.

Ingredients

  • Sugar Rim (One Glass)
  • 1/4 tsp lemon juice

  • 1 tsp. sugar

  • Lilac Martini Vermouth Cocktail
  • 1/2–3/4 oz (15–22 ml) Lilac Syrup

  • 2 oz (60 ml) extra dry vermouth

  • ice cubes

  • few drops of lime juice

  • fresh lilac flowers and few blueberries, for garnish

Directions

  • Prepare the glass. Pour a little lemon juice onto a small plate. Dip the rim of the glass into the juice, then gently shake off the excess.
  • Shake the cocktail. Add the lilac syrup, dry vermouth, lime juice, and ice to a cocktail shaker. Shake well for about 20–30 seconds until thoroughly chilled. Taste and adjust if needed by adding a little more vermouth, syrup, or lime juice.
  • Serve. Strain into a glass for a stronger cocktail, or pour over fresh ice if you prefer a lighter drink. Keep in mind that additional ice will dilute the delicate flavour. Garnish as desired and serve immediately.
