Hello, folks! How are you doing? I hope this week has been going well for you.

After a bunch of decadent (sometimes too decadent!) dulce de leche recipes, I am going back to spring recipes. And since lilacs are probably blooming or about to bloom where you live (they will not for another three weeks or so here in Nova Scotia), I am excited to share this delightful drink.

Lilac Infused Drinks

In the past, I have already shared several lilac-infused cocktails. Please be sure to check them.

This drink, however, is different. Unlike the abovementioned recipes made with Lilac Syrup, this cocktail is made with Lilac Sugar. By the way, the sugar suggests to you an express method that does not require infusing sugar for days.

Besides lilac sugar, this recipe calls for white (light) rum, Limoncello, and lemon juice.

Please note that lilac-infused recipes do not have a too pronounced aroma; it has a rather subtle and pleasant botanical flavour.

You can customize it, too. If you don’t have or like rum, swap for vodka or gin. Just be sure to pick a spirit that is neutral in flavour, otherwise it will overpower the subtle floral aroma (e.g. don’t pick spiced rum or bourbon). And if you have lilac syrup, you can use it in place of sugar.

And, of course, you can make similar cocktails with lavender or rose. That will be different recipes but equally delicious!

I hope you like this recipe, and you will give it a try. If you make it, please let me know in the comment section of this post below, send me an Instagram message, or share your photos by adding the hashtag #havocinthekitchen.

Cheers!

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. (60 ml.) white rum

  • 1/2 oz. (15 ml.) limoncello

  • 1/2 oz. (15 ml) lemon juice

  • 1-2 tbsp. (15-30 g.) lilac infused sugar

  • a handful of ice cubes

  • lemon wedges, mint, lilac florets – optional, for garnish

Directions

  • In a shaker combine the rum, limoncello, lilac sugar, lemon juice, and ice. Shake vigorously for about 30-40 seconds, until the sugar has dissolved. Try and adjust the taste by adding more of lilac sugar, lemon juice, or alcohol.
  • Filter the cocktail for a stronger version or serve over ice, but keep in mind that an additional ice will dilute already delicate and light cocktail even further.
