Apricot Lavender Sangria Recipe

Hello, folks! How are you doing? I hope you have had a productive week and you are now ready for an exciting weekend. And to all my American readers: I hope you have had a fabulous Fourth of July and continue to enjoy your long weekend!

And your weekend will only be better with a cocktail or two. (I know that every time I say something like that, I sound like a person with a drinking problem. In my excuse, I love to create and photograph cocktails, but give most of them to Andrew LOL)

Anyway, if you are looking for something delicious, refreshing, bright, and light, this recipe can be it. And if you like sangria, you will love this fun twist, Apricot Lavender Sangria.

What is Sangria?

What is a Sangria anyway?

Sangria is a mixed alcoholic beverage originating from Spain and Portugal. It traditionally consists of red wine, chopped fruit, and often other spirits. Oranges, lemons, and apples are common ingredients, but fruit and berry options are endless. A traditional sangria often includes spirits like brandy or orange liqueur (e.g., Triple Sec, Cointreau, or Grand Marnier). But just like with the fruit part, you can use so many other spirits, especially flavoured liqueurs, to create many fun versions.

A Sangria is a light (yet with a boozy kick thanks to mixing different alcohol) and refreshing drink. It is known for its complexity and the combination of sweet and tart notes. That’s why it is a perfect summer cocktail!

Apricot Lavender Sangria

To make this fun Apricot Lavender Sangria recipe, you will need the following ingredients:

  • White wine – the base spirit of this sangria. I used Pinot Grigio, but any good-quality wine of your choice will do. I recommend going with a light, medium-dry or semi-sweet wine, but that’s up to you. A rosé can be a nice substitution, too.
  • Apricot liqueur or brandy – the flavour modifier, and also adds sweetness.
  • Lavender Simple Syrup – adds subtle floral aroma. Because Apricot liqueur is already quite sweet, you can reduce the sweetness by adding less sugar to the syrup. Normally, you require a ratio of 1:1, i.e. one cup of water to one cup of sugar, but you can reduce the sugar in half for this recipe.
  • Apricots, peaches, or both. Don’t use frozen fruit for this recipe as it will look too mushy.
  • Ice cubes – for serving.
  • Club soda or sparkling water – an optional ingredient if you prefer a lighter sangria.
  • Lemon – an optional ingredient, for added extra freshness.

How to Make Apricot Lavender Sangria

That’s so easy. Simply combine in a pitcher the wine, apricot liqueur, lavender syrup, and sliced fruit. Try and adjust the flavour by adding more lavender syrup or apricot liqueur. Refrigerate for 30-60 minutes and enjoy!

I will not recommend making this version way too far in advance, as the fruit will start getting mushy after two hours or even earlier, depending on its ripeness.

And don’t forget to fill your glass with some ice cubes to make this experience even more enjoyable!

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle (750 ml.) Pinot Grigio, chilled
    – Or other white wine with a mild, medium-dry or semi-sweet profile

  • 2/3 cup (160 ml.) apricot liqueur or brandy

  • 1/4 cup (60 ml.) Lavender Simple Syrup
    or more, to taste

  • 3 peaches or 6-7 apricots (or combination of both) – pitted and sliced

  • ice cubes, for serving

Directions

  • Combine all ingredients except ice in a pitcher and stir to combine. Try and adjust the flavour by adding more apricot liqueur or lavender syrup. If sangria is too sweet to your liking, you can balance the flavour by adding some lemon juice or lemon slices.
  • Refrigerate for at least 30-60 minutes. I will not recommend going beyond 2 hours as the fruit will start losing their nice texture and start turning mushy.
  • Serve over ice and garnished as desired. Enjoy!

So pretty and what a wonderful flavor combination with the apricot and lavender!

  2. You know what? I haven’t made sangria of any sort yet this summer…and we’re halfway through! It’s time to fix that problem. I like the idea of apricot and lavender to give this one a different flavor profile. I do enjoy a white wine sangria on a hot summer day, and I’m thinking I need to invite some friends over as an excuse to make this!
