Looking for a delicious sauce for your holiday celebration? Look no further. Whether you celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any other holiday – this Cranberry Orange Sauce with Brandy will be a hit!
Jump to RecipeHello folks! How are you doing? I hope you all had a great weekend and are ready for a new week.
And since Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away for our neighbours (here in Canada, we celebrated it over a month ago), I thought this recipe would be perfect. After all, who does not need good cranberry sauce during the festive season? And this Cranberry Orange Sauce with Brandy is even better than just a good sauce.
Cranberry Orange Sauce with Brandy
Do you still buy cranberry sauce? Please stop. While some good quality brands probably exist, they will never beat any homemade version. The beauty of homemade cranberry sauce is that you are 100% in charge. Consistency, sweetness, and overall flavour – you can adjust all these characteristics to your preference. For example, we do not like too sweet sauce, always opting for tart and fresh.
Needless to say, it is so easy to make cranberry sauce. You will probably need no more than 20 minutes from start to finish in most recipes.
This sauce is packed with a ton of flavour coming from fruit and spices. And did I mention brandy? It is quite tart, so you can go ahead and add more sweetness if you prefer. Personally, when it comes to sauce, I love using honey as it balances out the tartness of cranberries so well.

Ingredients
7 cups (~700 gr.) fresh cranberries
1/2 to 2/3 cup oranges juice (from about 2 oranges)
2-4 tbsp. (25 – 50 gr.) granulated or light brown (golden) sugar
1/4 to 1/3 cup (85 – 115 gr.) honey
1/4 to 1/2 tsp. finely minced rosemary (optional)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ginger and cardamom
a pinch of ground anise seeds
a good splash (2-4 tbsp. or 30-60 ml.) of brandy
Directions
- In a medium pot (saucepan) combine the cranberries, orange juice, and sugar. Add the spices and rosemary (if using). Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes, until the berries start to soften and burst, stirring occasionally.
- Add the honey and brandy and cook for another 5 minutes or until the sauce begins to thicken noticeably (it will thicken even more once fully cooled). Try and add another good splash of Brandy or more sugar / honey, if desired.
- Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature and enjoy. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Your cranberry sauce is so pretty. I think I’ve used cognac before, and an orange liqueur. This is a great recipe.
Thank you Mimi!

What a cool idea to add a splash (or two!) of brandy into a homemade cranberry sauce. This is perfect for Thanksgiving! And I bet you could spoon leftovers on top of vanilla ice cream, right??
