The touch of smoked paprika and nutmeg adds depth and warmth, making this appetizer perfect for winter gatherings.

Ingredients You’ll Need for This Recipe

Cheese Ball:

  • Cheddar cheese: Provides sharp flavour and richness.
  • Cream cheese: The smooth base that brings everything together; use at room temperature for easy mixing.
  • Smoked almonds: Add a touch of depth and crunch. Regular almonds also work beautifully.
  • Dried cranberries: Bring sweetness and festive colour.
  • Fresh rosemary: Adds a herbal note that balances the richness.
  • Smoked paprika: Lends a hint of warmth and savoury depth.
  • Dehydrated oranges or orange zest: Add brightness and subtle citrus aroma.
  • Nutmeg: Enhances the holiday flavour profile.
  • Chopped almonds and dried cranberries: A crunchy, colourful coating that turns the cheese ball into a festive showpiece.

Possible Additions and Variations

  • Add herbs: Chopped thyme or chives can add freshness.
  • Swap nuts: Pecans, pistachios, or walnuts can be used instead of almonds.
  • Add sweetness: A drizzle of honey or maple syrup adds a subtle glaze.
  • Mini version: Roll into smaller cheese truffles for individual servings.
  • Extra smoky flavour: Use smoked cheddar or a dash of liquid smoke in the cheese mixture.

How to Make Cranberry Almond Cheese Ball

Making this Cranberry Almond Cheese Ball is simple and fun. In a large bowl, combine the cream cheese, cheddar, smoked almonds, chopped cranberries, rosemary, paprika, orange, and nutmeg. Mix until fully incorporated, then shape the mixture into a ball.

Wrap it in plastic wrap and chill for at least one hour to firm up. In the meantime, combine the chopped almonds and cranberries for the coating. Once chilled, roll the cheese ball in the coating mixture, pressing gently so it adheres evenly. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve — it tastes even better after the flavours have had time to blend.
