Do you like a classic Black Forest Gâteau (or Black Forest Cake)? If yes, you are going to love this Black Forest Cocktail then!
Hello everyone! I hope you had a nice restful weekend, and you’re ready for new week. But just in case you aren’t too happy about Monday, this Black Forest Cocktail will help you!
Hectic Times
Oh well, that was some hectic times last week – both at work and home. I probably didn’t tell you that we had many trees down this year in our backyard. Nope, I am not talking about those 10-ish large trees we cut down last summer. I am talking about ~40 trees we got rid of this winter. I know – Andrew got carried away (And in fact he is already planning to clean up some more space next year LOL). In our excuse, most of those trees were really rotten, and they could easily damage the house during a storm.
Anyway, for the last two months we’ve been doing lots of cutting and splitting. I am the one who operates the log splitter, and that was a huge portion of my weekend once again. Oh man, I’ve created an enormous pile of wood that now needs to be arranged properly. But I am not complaining. Our goal is to handle as much of the wood as possible until summer heat hits.
And actually, we’ve done a tremendous work. I would say we have less than 10% of wood left to cut and less than 15% to split. But the remaining pieces are really huge so we might keep them to dry out for a few months or even a year (If you were to ask me, I would say indefinitely! haha) So it seems in a couple of weeks we could officially wrap this project up or – take a long break.
But my weekend wasn’t only about the strenuous work. Of course I did something ultra exciting like making and photographing a couple of summer cocktails. Stay tuned!
In a meantime, I am sharing the cocktail I made last summer.
Black Forest Cocktail
If you like drinkable desserts, this Black Forest Cocktail will be right up your alley! It’s sweet (but not overly sweet) and mild – although you will free the presence of rum for sure.
It features only few simple ingredients:
– Rum (I used dark spiced) but any other would work.
– Cherry sauce. Simply sauté some frozen cherries with a bit honey and cinnamon. Or you can use good-quality store-bought sauce, but choose the one with whole berries for the best flavour.
– Dark or extra dark chocolate. Semi-dark is appropriate, but I will not recommend milk chocolate. You need to balance out the natural sweetness of cherries. Besides, Black Forest Cake is about dark chocolate.
– Whipped cream for garnish. Optional but mandatory LOL. What kind of cake would be without cream, right?
And What About Cake?
Of course this cocktail doesn’t include any cake. That’s why you can always arrange a slice to enjoy with this drink. Wouldn’t be this a win-win situation?!
So I hope you like this Black Forest Cocktail, and you will give it a try soon. If you make it, let me know in this post or send me an Instagram message or share you photos adding the hashtag #havocinthekitchen.
And don’t forget to check so many other cocktail ideas!
Cheers!
I love this so much. Such deep and rich flavors. The touch of cinnamon puts it over the top. :-) ~Valentina
Thank you Valentina!
I am so impressed with the wood cutting and splitting – I know how much work that is having done it – when I lived near trees! :)
The cocktail looks fun – the only real dessert cocktail I have had is a Brandy Alexander – and I love those. Maybe will need to give this a try soon! As you know form y recent post, cherries are good right now (just baked a cherry-berry-peach pie), so this is the time!
Now, Brandy Alexander is something like I should try!
Thank you David :)
Simply Wow! This cocktail is a dessert and drink in one

Oh my, Ben! All of that tree clearing is such hard work – you and Andrew have definitely earned one of these gorgeous cocktails. I love black forest cake, but I think I would enjoy one of these even more.
Oh yeah, I would say we earned even two of three of those :) Thank you Marissa!
Fun recipe! Love black forest cake, but never thought of making a cocktail with that flavor. Neat!
