Maple Pecan Sautéed Apples are an easy 20-minute dessert which requires a few ingredients (most of them are probably already in your pantry.) Apples are sautéed in a skillet with butter, maple syrup, lemon, and cinnamon along with some pecans for the added flavour and texture. And they taste fantastic – just like a cozy apple filling for a pie.
Jump to RecipeHey folks – how are you doing? Aren’t you tired of winter yet? We generally love winter and especially the snow part. But I think even I am ready for spring!
But we must to live with it for some time (and probably here in Nova Scotia, that is another two months or so.) Hence, we need something sweet, cozy, and delicious to coop with it better.
Maple Pecan Sautéed Apples
What about these fabulous Maple Pecan Sautéed Apples then?
Last week, I shared with you a similar idea with pears – Maple Sautéed Pears. And it is now turn for apples to shine.
Similarly, apples are get sautéed with butter, maple syrup, cinnamon, a pinch of salt (yes, salt is always important to balance the sweetness and accentuate the flavours!), and pecans for crunch and nuttiness. The cooking time will depend on the type of apples and their juiciness. But overall, it should take between 7 to 12 minutes. I would suggest you choose those apples that you’d normally use for baking (i.e., for apple pie filling.) Granny Smith, Macintosh, Cortland, Gala, and many others would be a good choice. I personally suggest a crisp and moderately tart variety. But if you only have apples that already are quite sweet, you can always reduce the amount of maple syrup.
Are These Apples a Healthy Dessert?
As always, it depends on what you consider healthy. The addition of butter and maple does not make this recipe healthy and light in terms sugar, fat, and calorie content. On the other hand, this dessert delivers some good amount of fiber, so perhaps it is a better option than a piece of cake.
Also, you can make it a bit healthier by reducing the amount of butter. In fact, I have made similar desserts with no butter at all, and they all turned out wonderful. Yes, not so rich and cozy (there’s something ultra comforting in a combination of butter and cinnamon, we cannot deny this!) but still delicious.
How to Enjoy This Recipe
These Maple Pecan Sautéed Apples are already a great dessert. Add a scoop of ice cream, if you prefer, and it will be just perfect. Or serve as a topping with crepes, cottage cheese, yogurt, or oatmeal. Personally, I love to enjoy warm pears with hot aromatic tea. So cozy on a cold winter night!
I hope you like these apples, and you will give them a try soon. If you make it, let me know in this post or send me an Instagram message or share you photos adding the hashtag #havocinthekitchen.
Cheers!

minutesMaple Pecan Sautéed Apples are an easy 20-minute (or less) dessert where apples are sautéed in a skillet with butter, maple syrup, lemon, and cinnamon. So cozy and delicious!
Ingredients
4-5 juicy and crisp sweet and tart apples, cored then sliced or cubed – choose those that are good for baking, i.e. Granny Smith, Macintosh, Cortland, or Gala.
~1/4 cup (80 ml.) or slightly more maple syrup
2 tbsp. (30 gr.) butter
few drizzles of lemon juice
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
a pinch of salt
1/2 – 1 tsp. maple flavour (optional)
1/2 cup (~60 gr.) pecan halves
Directions
- In a skillet, preferably heavy-bottomed, lightly toast the pecans over low-medium heat, until they are fragrant, about 3-5 minutes. Remove the pecans and set aside.
- Add the butter and maple syrup into the same skillet and melt. Stir in the cinnamon and salt. Simmer the mixture for 2-3 minutes, to thicken slightly.
- Stir in the apples with a little of lemon juice, cover, and simmer for 5-10 minutes, depending on their type and the desired softness, gently stirring with a spatula few times. Keep in mind that once the heat if off, they will still keep cooking and getting softer from residual heat – so do not overcook them.
- Uncover for the last 1-2 minutes and return the pecans. If using, stir in the maple flavour.
- Turn the heat off and let the apples cool a bit. You can serve them hot, warm, or room temperature. Enjoy with a scoop of ice cream if desired.

What a great way to use up apples that have seen better days. All of those warming spices are wonderful, particularly on the cold and snowy days of winter. Spring begins in April in Toronto but it’s not unheard of yo get snow! At least the early bulbs begin to pop their flowery heads out of the ground.
Thank you Eva!
