Spooky Season

Hello everyone. I hope you are doing well.

I am doing fine too, thanks for asking. But I am quite shocked that it’s October 17th already! Crazy, right? Indeed, I made and photographed my first two Christmas recipes. If you’re a food blogger, you can probably relate :)

In a meantime, it’s time for some Halloween staff! When it comes to Halloween recipes and ideas, I am not a huge fan of food that looks spooky. Or -better say – that are supposed to be spooky (Check those hilarious videos and photos on the Internet lol.) In my book, it’s quite hard to make the food look really scary because often it just turns cute (Like these Halloween Shortbread Cat Cookies) or even too funny. Those Witches’ Fingers Cheese Biscuits turned out quite well, though!)

I prefect to focus on overall atmosphere and mood instead. The right ambiance could give you the right vibe. And if you are lucky enough, the mood could help deliver the message “Don’t Touch This Food” or “Eat at Your Own Risk” lol.

Black Sesame Cheese Balls

But evet though I probably wouldn’t touch these Black Sesame Cheese Balls in some circumstances, they are super delicious. It’s a simple and basic cheese ball recipe with the addition of spices and herbs and simply rolled into black sesame seeds. Super easy and quite tasty!

Black Sesame Cheese Balls are a delicious twist on a classic cheese ball recipe. Rolled in toasted black sesame seeds makes them perfect for Halloween celebration!

Ingredients

  • 150 gr. sharp cheddar (about 1 and 1/4 cup, shredded and packed)

  • about 1 cup cream cheese, room temperature

  • pinch of garlic powder (not salt)

  • 1/4 tsp. smoked paprika

  • a pinch of chipotle powder

  • 1/2 tbsp. fresh thyme

  • about 1/2 cup toasted black sesame seeds

Directions

  • In a large bowl combine the cream cheese and cheddar until well-mixed. Stir in the herbs and spices. Try adding some salt if necessary (I usually skip this as the cheeses are quite salty. Plus, bear in mind the saltiness of crackers). If the mixture remains a little soft and sticky, you could chill it for 15-30 minutes.
  • Use a spoon to divide the mixture into about 18-22 tablespoon-size portions. Dip your clean hands in a little bit of water and smooth each portion into a small ball. Roll each ball into the black sesame seeds pressing gently.
  • Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. The cheese balls are better to enjoy within 3-4 days. Enjoy!

Just away to start on my Christmas recipes next week Ben, ha ha! I read you’re already 2 ahead. Love these Halloween themed cheese balls. I’m not sure how the kids here would react to me handing them one of these instead of some sweets or cakes though! Ha ha!

Wow! What a cool idea! I really hate that I’m not into Halloween any more. After my kids left home, it’s not the same. And we live in the country so no trick or treaters. I used to be the one who had the Halloween parties!
